Android and Google

So you may or may not know that Android is owned by search engine giant Google, Android and Google are the same company. What this means for Android owners is that if you have a Google account already or you are setting one up with your new Android purchase you can take advantage of some useful features the Android and Google partnership have to offer.

Google Search

A Google search bar can be accessed as soon as you have set your Android phone up. Swipe right on the home screen to bring up the Google now screen, where you will find a Google search bar.

Google Chrome

It’s not just Google search itself which is native to Android, Google’s own browser Chrome is too. This means that if you use Chrome on your work or home PC you can sync and move your tabs to and from each of the devices.

Google Maps

Even Google Maps will benefit from your Android device. If you are signed in on your PC and using the maps service you will have quick access to Home and Work pins (if you have set these up) and a more accurate location on your computer as it will get this information from your phone.

Google Now

Google Now is Google’s smart assistant, their answer to Siri and probably the most beneficial feature from syncing your other devices.

Google Now is available by swiping right on your home screen and is filled with information based on your previous use of Google’s services.

For example, if you have been searching Google for information on the latest Samsung, Google Now will show you cards for related news articles.

Also, if you travel to a certain location on a certain day, Google Now will automatically give you an option to name that location and then in future, will show you traffic details for that location on relevant days.
